What is Savannah Cat?
The savannah cat is a fascinating and rare hybrid breed, resulting from the cross between an African serval and a domestic house cat. Known for their striking appearance, savannahs feature tall legs, long slender bodies, large ears, and distinct exotic spots that set them apart from typical house cats. The inception of the savannah breed dates back to April 7, 1986, when breeder Judee Frank created the first savannah cat, aptly named Savannah, by crossbreeding a male serval with a Siamese cat. Over the years, the breed gained recognition, and in 1996, Patrick Kelley and Joyce Sroufe drafted the original breed standard, which was later accepted by the International Cat Association in 2001. This unique combination of ancestry not only captures the beauty of the wild but also brings the charm of domesticity into homes.
